Frequently Asked Questions
Therapy can feel intimidating when you don’t know what to expect. Here are some of the most common questions clients ask — answered with honesty, warmth, and transparency.
Getting Started
Q: How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself, therapy can help you make sense of what’s happening and find practical steps forward.
Our first session (or a free 20-minute Meet-and-Greet) is a chance to talk through your goals and see if we’re a good fit — no pressure to commit.
Q: Do you offer free consultations?
Yes! I offer a free 20-minute Meet-and-Greet for new clients.
It’s a relaxed call (video or phone) to answer questions, discuss what’s been difficult, and explore whether my approach fits your needs.
Q: How does online therapy work?
All sessions are virtual, held through a secure video platform that meets Canadian privacy standards.
You can join from your phone, tablet, or computer — anywhere in Ontario.
Many clients find online therapy less stressful and more accessible than in-person sessions.
Fees, Coverage & Billing
Q: What are your session fees?
-
$175 for 50-minute individual sessions
-
$225 for 80-minute couples or family sessions
-
Free 20-minute Meet-and-Greet
Q: Do you offer direct billing?
Yes — I can direct bill most major insurance companies, as long as they allow it for Registered Social Workers (RSWs).
You’ll only need to pay any uncovered portion, if applicable.
Q: Are sessions covered by insurance?
Most extended health plans cover therapy with a Registered Social Worker (MSW RSW).
If you’re unsure, check your plan for wording like “Registered Social Worker” or “MSW.”
I can also provide documentation for workplace or disability claims.
Q: Can I claim sessions on my taxes?
Yes. Therapy with an RSW qualifies as a medical expense on your Canadian tax return.
Confidentiality & Safety
Q: Is online therapy private and secure?
Yes. All sessions use encrypted, PIPEDA-compliant software designed for healthcare.
I do not record sessions, and your information is stored safely according to provincial guidelines.
Q: What if I’m in crisis or have suicidal thoughts?
If you’re in immediate danger, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.

Accessibility & Accommodations
Q: What if I need breaks or flexible session pacing?
That’s completely okay.
Sessions can include short breaks, pauses for regulation, or adapted pacing for fatigue, sensory needs, or emotional overload.
I also offer shorter check-in sessions for higher-risk or neurodivergent clients who benefit from consistency.
Q: Do you offer therapy for people with chronic illness or disabilities?
Yes. My practice is disability-informed and energy-aware.
We can adapt scheduling, goals, and session structure to suit fluctuating capacity, chronic pain, or medical appointments.
H2: Approach & Specialties
Q: What makes your approach different?
My work blends evidence-based and creative approaches — ACT, DBT, Polyvagal, IFS, EMDR-informed, and Music Therapy — within a neurodivergent-affirming, trauma-informed framework.
I help clients find strategies that fit their values and energy, not someone else’s checklist.
Q: Do you only work with neurodivergent clients?
No. While I specialize in neurodiversity-affirming therapy (ADHD, autism, AuDHD), I also work with anyone seeking authentic, compassionate support.
That includes professionals, parents, veterans, creatives, and anyone exploring growth or healing.
Q: Do you see couples or families?
Yes — I offer couples therapy (Gottman, EFT, SFBT) and parenting support (ACT, values-based, and trauma-informed).
Both are available virtually across Ontario.
Q: Can you provide documentation for short- or long-term disability?
Yes. Depending on your insurer’s requirements, I can provide progress notes, treatment summaries, or direct communication (with your consent).
Q: Do you work with teens?
Yes. I see teens and young adults (typically 14+) who are ready for a collaborative, creative approach that balances structure with flexibility.
Logistics
Q: What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Cancellations with at least 24 hours’ notice can be rescheduled without charge.
Cancellations with less notice may be billed at the regular session rate unless there’s an emergency or illness.
Q: How do I prepare for my first session?
You’ll receive a confirmation email with a secure video link and optional intake form.
Bring yourself — you don’t need to be “ready” or have everything figured out.
We’ll start by talking about what’s most important to you right now.
Q: What technology do I need?
Any device with a camera, microphone, and stable internet connection works.
Headphones are helpful for privacy and focus, but not required.
